The Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC) hosted a Puppy Yoga event on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. at its shelter in Fort Lauderdale–the event is led by certified yoga instructor Keely Hubbard of Las Olas Yoga Studio. The HSBC animal-assisted wellness class lets people engage in mindfulness yoga while spending time with puppies that are up for adoption. The registration fee is $30 and the money goes to the Humane Society to support the animals.
The class duration was an hour long from 9-10:00 a.m. and included 30 participants. During the session, participants engaged in relaxing yoga while puppies walked around and played with them. This mix of yoga and puppies is proven to release serotonin and reduce anxiety–combining relaxation and mindfulness with the fun puppies looking for potential adopters.
The dogs are free to move around, giving the people doing yoga a chance to connect with them and enjoy the moment. Senior Mayra Sanchez, the vice president of the Humane Society club, attended the event and called the experience “one of a kind” with this being her first and best yoga session. “It was very calming, and not only was it a professional class that really did soothe me, the puppies were an additional bonus,” Sanchez said.
The puppies come from the Humane Society and are all looking for their forever homes. Staff say events like this help the puppies get used to people and can help them get adopted faster. The Humane Society hopes Puppy Yoga’s goals are to also raise awareness about their pet adoption. They are looking forward to future events such as “Painting With A Purpose” on April 3 from 7–9 a.m., another “Puppy Yoga” on April 14 from 9-10 a.m., and “Bunny Basics Class – Online” on 10:30-11:30 a.m.
