As the year continues, many seniors are preparing for this year’s senior assassin. It’s a non school affiliated tradition that adds excitement and competition for seniors and gives them a fun way to enjoy their final year of high school. The purpose of senior assassin is to allow seniors a chance to win money for college.
Class of 2026 president Alya Kadribasic and vice president Beatrice Gomes have worked extremely hard on organizing this year. Many are very excited and can’t stand the anticipation of waiting for the game to start. “I am super excited to play because it definitely feels like one of the staples of senior year! I am very competitive, and I know the other players are as well, so I cannot wait to go against my classmates,” senior Morgan Schradel said.
To play you must pay $15 to enter the first time, and if you happen to be eliminated, you pay $30 to buy back in; you have a maximum amount of two buy backs. Senior assassin is a game where seniors either partner up with someone or just play individually; they attempt to eliminate targets in each round with a water gun. If you and your partner successfully stay alive while eliminating all your targets, the winning team gets a cash prize, which is based on how many people decide to do and pay for senior assassin. If you carry a baby doll on you, that counts as your “immunity”. However, people won’t always be able to be immune. “Purge days are when your baby doesn’t work for immunity so you can get eliminated with your baby,” Kadribasic said.
There are strict rules that must be followed: no eliminating people at school, during practice, work, or in a place of worship. You must have your location on at all times. No going into someone’s house unless you have video permission from one of the owners, no drive bys, and lastly the immunity babies must be at least five inches big. “Failure to follow the rules results in a bounty which is when anyone in the whole game can get you, not just the one team targeting you,” Gomes said.
Senior assassin becomes something seniors will always remember about their last year. Even after graduation, the stories from the game will stick with them, making their last months of high school even more special.
