The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender” is an upcoming animated film that will be directed by Lauren Montgomery. It will be the sequel of the popular series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and serves as the first production of Avatar Studios, a Nickelodeon division for projects in the universe, announced to the public in Feb. 2021.
The film stars the voices of Eric Nam (Aang), Dionne Quan (Toph), Jessica Matten (Katara), Román Zaragoza (Sokka), and Steven Yeun (Zuko) as the main cast, most of whom were chosen to match the ethnic and/or racial background of their characters.
The movie was originally meant to be released in theaters but is now set to release on Paramount+ in 2026 for streaming. “Unspecified delays in physical animation production” led to the pushback, Animation Magazine said.
It’s set to take place after “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and before “The Legend of Korra”, following the main cast as young adults. We have Aang as our protagonist as he learns of an ancient power that has the ability to save his culture from extinction. Along with his friends, he starts a global quest to find the power before the wrong people get it and ruin the peace that they fought so hard for.
