On Friday, April 27, the Pompano Beach Tornadoes took on the Cypress Bay Captain Lightning varsity baseball team in a non-district matchup. The Tornadoes were eager to create a three-game win streak while Cypress Bay was hoping to win their 8th straight.
The game started off hot, with Pompano scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Cypress Bay then retaliated in the second with a run of their own, followed up by another run from the Tornadoes. Heading into the 5th inning, Pompano led by 2 runs, which dwindled down to a one run lead after the Lightning scored another. In the 7th inning, Pompano brought in their closer, Philip Barris, whom Cypress Bay batted in 4 runs against ultimately sealing the deal in a Lightning 6 to 3 win.
The Lightning’s top bat, JP Murata, collected a total of 4 hits with 1 RBI. On Pompano’s side, Mossimo Carbone was the top hitter with 1 RBI in one hit. Reece Ward, the starting pitcher said, “We are doing really good but we need to get better on our defense and pitching.”
With this game’s conclusion, Pompano hosts Franklin Academy on April 30, at 5:30 PM, hoping to become 8-8 on the year with a win percentage of .500. Cypress Bay heads to Sunrise to take on the Piper Bengals at 6 PM on April 30 too.
