Thursday, Feb. 12, the Tornadoes played their season opener against the Taravella Trojans in a non-district matchup in Coral Springs, losing 3-7. The first pitch was 6:30pm.
This game was close, with both teams putting up their first run in the second inning. Pompano’s top performer, Reece Ward, had six strikeouts in his four innings pitched, with only one run given up. The Trojans scored again in the fifth to make it 2-1, but that was just the start of their rally. In the sixth, Taravella put up five runs to make the score 7-1. Sophomores Eric Bouza and Justin Lemin gave up four runs and two runs, respectively. Each earned one strikeout for the Tornadoes.
The team was motivated going into the game stating, “Let’s start the season strong!” on their Instagram page.
Now 0-1 to start the season, Pompano will head to Davie to face Western at 6:30pm. The Trojans take on the Chaminade-Madonna Lions on the 18th at 6pm.
