The Muppets have made a return to the big screen with a Disney+ one episode revival coming Feb. 4, 2026 to celebrate the 70th anniversary. The Muppets, a puppet entertainment group, first aired in 1955 and has come to televisions around the country through roughly six TV shows, most notably their big break, the Muppet Show, a five-season iconic variety show stretching from 1976-1981, and 14 movies, between 1979 and 2021.
One of the most iconic in the group, Miss Piggy, a diva known for her sassy, stubborn personality, is set for her first stand-alone movie in 2026 or 2027.
Jennifer Lawrence, best known for her part as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games series, and Emma Stone, best known for films such as La La Land in 2016 and Cruella in 2021, will serve as the producers along with Cole Escola, a Tony award winner for the hit Broadway play “Oh Mary!,” who is set to write the screenplay
Lawrence revealed the film was in the works in Nov. 2025 on the podcast, “Las Culturistas” hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Lawrence then teased the possibility of her and Stone being featured in the movie. “I think so. We have to… It’s [messed] that we haven’t done a movie together].”
Lawrence expanded on the origin of the film, detailing how the idea came to them during the height of the pandemic, and during the surge of cancel-culture in our world.
“Miss Piggy is a feminist icon. It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got canceled,” Lawrence said. “Now that is not the plot necessarily,” she clarified. “But it got the wheels turning.”
While Miss Piggy has certainly said some cancelable things, we can imagine this film will get the green light by many fans when it comes out, adding another family favorite movie to the Muppet collection.
