For the first time in over two decades, the Miami Hurricanes played for the National Championship. The last time the Canes made it to the National Championship was in 2002. On Jan. 19, the Canes stepped onto their own turf at Hard Rock Stadium and hosted the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers (16-0) beating Miami 27-21 and completing a perfect season.
Canes fans were extremely disappointed and shocked at this loss, thinking the Canes would make a historic comeback and secure the win for the championship.
“It’s upsetting and disappointing. The Canes had such a great team with amazing potential, showed bad signs in the regular season, but almost looked to come back from the trenches to win the natty, but were stripped away by a team with no five stars. “It’s heartbreaking,” said freshman Allandy Plaismine.
The Canes had 342 total yards, 232 passing yards, 110 rushing yards, and an average of 6.5 yards per play. Prediction and expectation for the Hoosiers to win were at an all-time high, but fans of the Canes put all faith into them as the “underdogs” who would win the championship.
“Every step back is a blessing, it just takes time,” freshman Matias Nue said. It was an absolutely tragic loss; will the Canes be able to score a championship in 2027? Who knows, but that’s just the beauty of it.
