The Coffee Shop, formally known as The Golden Roast, is open from 7:05 AM to 9:30 AM every morning. During this time, all kinds of snacks and drinks are served to students in the library. However, there is a debate around whether the coffee shop should extend their hours.
“I think the coffee shop hours should be a little longer because we only get 30 minutes during our second/ sixth period and some teachers don’t allow you to go,” a freshman/daily coffee shop customer said. On Blue Days, my Spanish teacher doesn’t allow anyone to go to the coffee shop. However, during Gold Days, my English general paper teacher allows us to go.
Approval of teachers isn’t the only thing that’s making coffee shop hours a debatable topic.
Students tend to have a lot of work on their hands. With all this work, students can never get a time to successfully go to the coffee shop without missing anything in class. “The work I have decides whether or not I can go to the Coffee Shop. On Blue Days, I can’t go at all because my teachers don’t allow it, so I mostly go on Gold Days,” freshman Emma Yskellar said.
An extension for the coffee shop could be too operable during lunch times. During this time, students have more flexibility to go to the coffee shop. They don’t have to worry about time/work efficiency or approval from their teachers to go to the coffee shop.
Students aren’t able to go to The Golden Roast, due to not getting approval from teachers and having work keep them busy. During lunch times, the coffee shop should open again to make sure everyone has the chance to get to a refreshing drink and delectable snack to keep them going.
