Academics aren’t the only thing Golden Tornadoes are good at! In fact, we at Pompano have an outstanding Drama department with many dedicated students working both on stage and behind the scenes to bring productions to life. Their latest, upcoming production to take flight is “Peter and the Starcatcher,” directed by Aliyah Bilu.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” is the prequel to J.M. Barrie’s “Peter and Wendy,” which was what inspired Disney’s “Peter Pan.” The play goes into the backstories of Peter Pan (Danika Estes), Mrs. Darling, Tinker Bell and Hook, showing how they became the infamous characters we know and love today.
In summary, “Peter and the Starcatcher” takes place in Victorian England where a group of orphans are transported to a remote island ruled by the villain, King Zarboff. What the orphans are unaware of is that their ship contains a magical, secret cargo called “starstuff.” Danger ensues when Molly (Hillary Queen), a “Starcatcher-in-training” sworn to protect the cargo, and Black Stache (Patrick Gohl), an evil pirate captain aiming to steal it, collide over ownership of the treasure. Pirates attack and the orphans are placed in great peril to keep the magic safe, begging the question: Will good overcome evil, or will the magic fall into evil’s vicious hands?
Well no need to ponder on this question because it has an easy answer: go to the play, and find out. For $5 per student and $10 per adult, you can answer this gnawing question and support your school’s Drama Club! Showings are Jan. 21 and Jan. 22, Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 6:30pm on both days. Don’t miss your flight to Neverland!
