On Tuesday, the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes hosted the Coral Springs Charter Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 in a non-district matchup, the Tornadoes losing 76-60 in a thriller.
The Tornadoes, coming off a 1-13 record and a six game losing streak, needed this win as a momentum change, but ultimately lost by 16 against the now 8-11 Panthers. Pompano put up a fight by matching the Panthers’ 12 points in the first quarter and putting up 23 in the second, which was 4 more than Coral Springs Charter. Halftime was when the game turned for the worse, with the Panthers putting up 20 in the third and 25 in the fourth, outmatching Pompano.
Travis Ward, the Tornadoes guard wearing #2, now has a 16.9 points per game average and has become a team leader. As a junior, Ward has now outperformed his sophomore stats in only 15 games.
Ward’s teammate and fellow leader Dylan McIntosh supports Ward and his play style, while also speaking highly of himself, saying earlier this month that he is “one percent better daily.” The two of them are motivated to turn around the Tornadoes’ losing season.
The Tornadoes are now 1-14 on the year and head to Hollywood to take on the South Broward Bulldogs at 7:30p.m. on Jan. 22. Coral Springs Charter will head to Parkland to face the Stoneman Douglas Eagles, both games being non-district.
