Seniors Jonah Bennett and Ethan Del Campo competed in the cross country regionals meet on Oct. 27 at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton

“It’s a beautiful course,” Coach Corey Brown said. “South Regional Park is a course that our runners have enjoyed running because it is all cross country, there’s no pavement. It really is a nice, all grass, very fast course.”

This was the third time that Coach Brown and her husband Darius led the cross country boys team to regionals, since they took over in 2020.

However, both runners had problems at the meet.

“I feel like the meet didn’t go as expected because of the crowded situation, and a lot of runners,” Del Campo said. “It was difficult to pass people.”

Bennett felt his finish was affected by an unpunished infraction.

“I felt furious after the meet,” Bennett said. “Myself and one other were pushed off of our stride by another runner at the 4K mark, which is illegal, and the officials did nothing for myself or the other affected runner.”

They ended the last meet of their season with Jonah Bennett finishing the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 1 second and Ethan Del Campo getting 19:31.
