New assistant principal Cornelius Hagans’ first year at Pompano Beach High School is off to a great start, helping Golden Tornadoes to have a smooth beginning to the school year. While new to this school, he still has nearly a decade of previous experience with being an assistant principal at Royal Palm Beach High School.

Mr. Hagans found himself drawn to a career in education. “It was a calling, helping children,” Hagans said. “I believe I was called to this job.” He cares deeply about supporting students in general, and he is dedicated to ensuring that every graduate of Pompano Beach High School attends a four-year college or university.

Mr. Hagans takes pride in creating a safe environment for students and staff to be successful. “As an assistant principal I keep people safe. I make sure students feel safe, so they can maintain academic excellence, global vision, for an unlimited future.” However, Mr. Hagans chose this field of work for a different reason: “To help. It’s the field I was most familiar with as a child. So I wanted to help people like me; I felt that I could do that in this industry.” 

He believes that the biggest challenge working as an assistant principal is keeping kids elevated. “It’s challenging working with students so elevated and maintaining that elevation,” Hagans said, meaning he wants to keep kids motivated throughout the school year, and not just at the beginning.

Overall, Mr. Hagans enjoys his new job. “It’s the best place on Earth,” Hagans said of the school.  We should all welcome Mr. Hagans to Pompano Beach High School.
