This year, the school’s music program has finally returned. The new teacher, Mr. Banaska started teaching this year and is very motivated to begin helping the students learn to play music.
“I’ve seen how hungry the kids here are for a music program, any at all. So I’m very fortunate to be able to fill the gap and give the students what they want,” Banaska said.
His own experience with music started as a child, and it left a lasting impression.
“I’ve seen what music has done for me, what it has done for other people, doesn’t matter what age, who they are, music can help anybody.”
There are 3 types of music classes offered now: guitar, chorus, and band, and they are quite different from most other subjects in that they provide students firsthand experience with the subjects that are taught.
Sophomore Andrew Kurry said his favorite part was that “the class was more hands-on.”
Having prior musical experience is not required to participate in the class.
Junior Leeraz Amasay said that “(Experience) did help me learn the things he was teaching quicker, but prior skills aren’t necessary for the class.”
