School Counselor Kevin Dawson joins the Golden Tornadoes to aid in students’ journeys throughout high school. His role began in the late 2024-25 school year, where one of his initial jobs was helping students configure their course schedule for the upcoming school year.
Dawson discovered his passion for working with students when he participated in 4-H, an organization that mentors young people ages 5 to 19.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with students and helping them to become the best version of themselves,” he said. “There is so much energy and optimism in high school students that I found this age group was my favorite to work with.”
As a school counselor, Dawson helps students with various tasks, such as making schedule changes, writing recommendation letters, and offering advice.
“School counselors wear many hats. My main functions are to ensure student emotional safety, assist in college and career planning, and help students create an academic pathway that will open doors to any desired post-secondary opportunities that they may choose to embark on,” Dawson said.
With his new position at Pompano Beach High School, Dawson hopes to make an impact and assist those in need of a helping hand.
“My primary goal is always to leave my students in a better place than I found them, both academically and emotionally.”
