The Film and Technology Association (FTA) is the perfect opportunity for those who want the experience of being a filmmaker. Members get the opportunity to produce various pieces of media, such as photos, short films, and news packages. They often work together as a team to create these productions. Occasionally, they capture some of our exciting special events, such as the International Summit, sports games, and theatrical productions.
With senior Maurizio Stradiotti and junior Katelyn Lackner as the current co-presidents of the FTA, they hope to expand the club and bring it into a new light. They want to be more involved in the community, participating in more events and national competitions. In addition, they would also like to shift their focus in their productions.
“I want to put an emphasis on bigger projects that could span multiple meetings in order to encourage a more quality-over-quantity approach that allows for cooler short films and more in-depth news packages,” Stradiotti said. While it may be a bit challenging to introduce these new features, the co-presidents are optimistic about the FTA’s future.
Initially, it was a little difficult to start up the club this year due to the retirement of technology teacher Dawn Donnelly, the FTA’s previous sponsor. Stradiotti and Lackner needed to find a new sponsor to keep it running. Luckily, science teacher Jason Frey agreed to take on the role. With him and the help of technology support specialist Ivonne Raiford, the FTA can carry on creating their film projects and give students the unique behind-the-scenes experience.
As Stradiotti and Lackner take the lead in their video productions, the FTA continues to educate students in filmmaking, allowing them to create and contribute to their films and expand their knowledge of the film industry.
