The Pompano Beach High School Golden Tornadoes won a close game between one of their biggest rivals, the Marathon Dolphins, in a 48-33 victory. Coming back from a 13-point deficit, the Tornadoes led the first quarter, then in the second quarter both teams scored seven points.
Ayden Jaouhar, a senior wide receiver, scored a total of six touchdowns; however, two of them were called back due to a penalty.
“I felt like every time I scored, Marathon would just fire back with another touchdown. I knew if we wanted to win I had to pull out all the stops,” Jaouhar said.
Senior running back Ryan Dacosta scored one touchdown on a deep run to secure the win.
“When I saw the open lane, I immediately knew I had to score. We were already up one touchdown and this next one would have given us a safe lead going into the fourth quarter,” Dacosta said.
In the third quarter, the Dolphins scored 20 points against the Tornadoes’ six points, and by the fourth quarter, the Tornadoes came back with 22 points to seal the deal with a victory.
In a celebratory win, Pompano now holds a record of 1-0 heading to Pine Crest, hoping to secure a second win against the 0-1 team. The game is this Thursday, Aug. 29 at Pine Crest.
