Junior Kourtney Savage is more than just a student. “I’m a cultural ambassador, passionate about celebrating and preserving the unique culture of the Islands,” she said. As the president of the Caribbean Club, Savage is at the forefront of promoting Caribbean culture within Pompano and the community around them.
Under Savage’s leadership, the club organizes a variety of events throughout the year. This year, one of their main events is a cultural potluck for all the incoming international students. “The Caribbean club offers a platform for students to connect with their roots and share their culture with others while having fun and interacting with each other,” Savage said. This way students get to have fun learning about their culture while having fun with their friends.
Balancing her academic responsibilities with her role as club president is no easy feat, but Savage is determined. “It’s hard, but I try my best to just plan everything out,” she said. She prioritizes her studies while dedicating time to organizing events, mentoring members, and fostering a sense of community within the club.
Savage’s passion for Caribbean culture extends beyond her involvement in the club. “I just love the people,” she said. She hopes to use her platform to educate others about the significance of these cultural expressions and inspire future generations to carry on the legacy.
As she looks to the future, Savage envisions a world where Caribbean culture is celebrated and appreciated by all her fellow students and teachers. She hopes to continue her journey of spreading and exploring culture, making a positive impact on her community and beyond.
