There have been changes to calendar for the rest of the school year: school will remain open on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025. This day was previously an employee planning day. The first semester will end on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 and as a result an employee planning day has been added on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. Broward County Public schools have also released a severe weather day if necessary for the 2025 school year: March 31, 2025.
“I like the new and improved calendar because it still allows for other weather events while keeping the hours needed high school students’ education,” freshman Marcia De Figueirdo said.
Junior Julia Mauriello adds to this by saying that what happens with hurricanes is out of our control. “Why do we need to cut our Thanksgiving break if another storm were to happen?”
Overall, the weather events did not result in anything drastic. High School students are required to be in school for 900 hours per school year and this new schedule allows for that.
