JROTC planned to hold the annual Fallen Heroes ceremony at 8 a.m., Nov. 10 in the courtyard. The ceremony was canceled when school and all activities were canceled due to Hurricane Nicole.

The cadets asked $2 from sponsors for each flag planted in the courtyard to represent a service member who died in the wars following Sept. 11, 2001. They also practiced marching, flag etiquette, color guard and more.

This year, the courtyard had over 7,060 flags that each had a card with information about the service man or woman who sacrificed their lives in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
“The purpose of this event is to honor the fallen,” freshman cadet Jack Nulty said. “And to remember them for their heroic acts from the events of 9/11 to now.”

“I feel that it is an amazing thing for JROTC to do as it honors many veterans that have died serving our country.” freshman cadet Matthew Smith added.

The JROTC will commemorate veterans, especially those who gave their lives, in May around Memorial Day.
