Members in the Spanish Honor Society have made themselves available as tutors for several months for students needing additional help in Spanish, but president Dairys Montes de Oca said that the process has not been going as smoothly as planned.
“It has been very difficult to get people to sign up for tutoring, especially because everything is online now, and many just resort to the simple solution of cheating,” Montes De Oca said. “We have eager members waiting to tutor, but no one seems to want to put the work in and study.”
Montes de Oca said that the e-learning atmosphere makes learning a new language more complicated.
“It is significantly more difficult to tutor Spanish virtually because of that loss of interest,” Montes de Oca said. “Once there is a screen between the tutor and the student, that extra barrier makes it that much more difficult for the connections to be made.”
The Spanish Honor Society is hoping that the upcoming exams will encourage more students to seek out a Spanish tutor by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
