NHS accepts applications

By Alisha Durosier, Opinion Editor

The National Honor Society (NHS) is now accepting applications. Limited to juniors and seniors, forms have been revised to make the applications process easier for current and future applicants. Sophmores will be allowed to apply at the start of the second semester.

Underclassmen who aim to be a future member of the NHS can apply for the novice program. Through the novice program, underclassmen have the opportunity to take part in NHS activities, which ultimately qualifies them to become national members.

Applicants must have an unweighted GPA of 3.3 , a minimum of 30 documented community service hours and at least 2 letters of recommendation from a teacher or community representative specifying a leadership role. Applicants also cannot have any obligations or disciplinary reports.

The first NHS meeting takes place on the Sept. 16 and applications are to be submitted to Dr. Melillo by October 1st.
