Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: The game that relieves stress, satisfies social needs

By Alexia Tontchev, Staff Intern

It’s now over a whole month under quarantine, and I still haven’t seen my best friend yet, even though I was supposed to meet up with her this month in real life.

Sure, I’ve seen her three times every week during FaceTime, but I’m getting really annoyed with the fact that I have to rely on the internet and my phone service in order to see her.

The only good news I could say that has happened to me during this time is the fact that I don’t have to wake up at 5:25 anymore to ride the bus to physical school.

Personally, I really do prefer online school better than physical school, but let’s talk stress. The literal amount of online work that I’ve had to do for the past month has been insane.

Thankfully, I’ve been able to keep up with all of it, with barely being able to keep my sanity. Every day from Monday to Friday, I’ve been working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., which let’s just say did not work out for me at the end.

But now, I’ve saved up enough money to buy the game that I’ve always wanted on the Nintendo Switch, which costs about $60. Before you ask, no it’s not Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which I know everyone is obsessed with currently.

It’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a high-quality racing game where you get to pilot your favorite Nintendo character, whether it’s from the Super Mario, Legend of Zelda or even the Animal Crossing series.

There are 48 tracks in this game, each one more unique and more awesome than the other. You can hit the road with any kart and/or bike and play anytime.

You can play locally with your friends in up to four-player multiplayer mode and use the item blocks found within the tracks to slow them down!

Or, if you don’t have anyone to play with at the moment, you can always play online, which in my opinion is the best. This is because you can meet new people from all around the world and race with them, and in this way, you won’t be lonely for a long time.

Nevertheless, I recommend the battle mode, where you can either play Ballon battle, coin battle, renegade roundup and shrine thief. All of these are really stress relievers, so if you ever get enraged because of schoolwork or even just being trapped inside your house stuck with your parents and siblings all the time, just buy this game to go with your Nintendo Switch and have a blast!
