NHS closes applications for new applicants

The National Honor Society closed its applications for new and novice members on Jan. 18. “We are building up the integrity of our clubs as we raised the GPA requirements to 3.5 and maintaining that all members uphold the 30 hour requirement for the semester,” chapter president Samantha Mills said. “We are also working towards admitting as many interested and qualified students as possible.”

Juniors and seniors had to provide two letters of recommendation and answer the prompt “When was a time when you most exemplified one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society (scholarship, service, leadership, character)?”

Freshman and sophomores could sign up for novice membership. Because only juniors and seniors can be official members of the national organization, the chapter created the novice program to build interest and awareness among students in those grades. “Freshman are able to join our novice program in which they can participate in NHS events as a freshman or a first semester sophomore,” Mills said.
