NHS collects toys for hospital

The National Honor Society organized a toy drive Dec. 5-15 for the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. The toys go to the child life team, who gifts the toys for holidays, birthdays and significant milestones during a child’s treatment.

“The goal of our toy drive is to be able to work with other National Honor Society chapters in Broward County to collect toys on a school wide level,” chapter president Samantha Mills said. “This way we can receive and donate as many toys to Joe DiMaggio Children’s hospital as possible.”

The collection included puzzles, Legos and baby clothes. Social studies teacher Richard Nagy donated some of the toys from the toy drive he coordinated with ROTC, Broward Sheriff’s Office and Make Our Schools Safe.

“Doing a toy drive following the MOSS club’s toy drive seemed intimidating, but we have gotten plenty of generous donations,” Mills said.

Although the deadline to donate toys already passed, NHS will continue accepting donations until Dec. 22.
